BALTIMORE – A new online daily web-log featuring Dr. Bill Thomas, an internationally-recognized visionary on aging and professor at the Erickson School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, is seeking to elevate elders and elderhood in our society by taking-to-task the media, government and other interest groups who perpetuate a declinist view of aging.

In his new blog, www.ChangingAging.org, Thomas will bring his unique voice and views to bear on the news of the day, popular culture and other issues. The blog also will feature guest-entries from prominent experts in aging fields, including faculty members from the Erickson School of aging, management and policy.

“The Blog is firmly established as the new public square and blogging represents one of the best ways to provoke discussion and change public opinion,” Thomas said.

About Dr. Bill Thomas

William H. Thomas, M.D. is a geriatrician and leading authority on the future of aging and longevity. He is founder of the Eden Alternative, a global nonprofit organization, and a professor at the Erickson School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Most recently he developed the Green House, a radically new approach to long term care where nursing homes are torn down and replaced with small, home-like environments where people can live a full and interactive life. In 2005, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced a five-year ten million dollar grant to support the launch of Green House projects in all fifty states. He lives in Ithaca, NY, with his wife, Judith Meyers-Thomas, and their five children.

About the Erickson School

The Erickson School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County was created with a $5 million commitment from John Erickson, CEO and founder Erickson Retirement Communities. The School integrates aging, management, and policy in each of its programs, with a strong emphasis on preparing leaders for the 21st century. The School offers credit and non-credit educational programs at the undergraduate, masters, and executive levels. Through a federally funded center, the School also conducts intensive research to address the pressing practical and policy issues of our nation’s rapidly growing aging population.
